Fashion Distraction :: Lela Rose Spring 2010

Lela Rose Spring 2010

The Lela Rose Spring 2010 collection took a sophisticated, sporty, feminine look from beachside to formal event with everything in-between. What stood out more than anything else was Rose’s color choices. The palette was bright and bold with hues that were just slightly not primary. What made the palette most interesting, though was the way Rose combined the colors. A deep royal blue, paired with jungle green and bright yellow. Pink, orange, navy blue and ocean blue were also favorites.

Rose effortlessly worked these brights into the fabrics and designs she used. A jacquard dress, splashed with yellow and a green cocktail dress with plays of blue through the one-shoulder ruffle.

This collection is wearable (and quite covetable) all the way through. Indeed, there were no outfits that were too over the top or unattainable for the average woman. Put simply, this is a collection that won’t lead you astray!

Key Trends from the Spring 2010 Lela Rose Collection:

What Can We Take Away?

Again, we’re seeing sporty, sleek styles for Spring-with an emphasis on femininity. The feminine style that seems to be the trend is one that’s more classic and sophisticated than sweet and frilly.

Your Thoughts?

I’m a big fan of this collection. There are so many things to like!
What do you think? Can you see yourself wearing styles similar to these?

Fashion Distraction :: Vivienne Tam Spring 2010

Vivienne Tam Spring 2010

Vivienne Tam’s Spring 2010 collection was all about butterflies. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese opera ‘Butterfly Lovers’, each outfit worked around a central accessory–the HP digital clutch Tam designed.

The butterfly theme prevailed in a variety of ways. Satin and chiffon pieces featured over-sized butterfly prints in color and black and white. Embroidered butterflies provided the structure for skirts and dresses. Sequined butterflies embellished dresses and tops. And, the general structure of the pieces Tam designed were flowing and light, like butterflies. In short, butterflies were everywhere!

While the butterfly theme was fanciful and unique, the best designs weren’t focused on butterflies at all. Fitted blazers, tailored jeans and structured cocktail dresses were the most wearable of all Tam’s designs.

In addition, the general feel was 1970′s throwback. Over-sized fringe bags, maxi-dresses and gladiator sandals provided a hippie-chic feel. The only reminder of our current decade was the digital clutch most of the models carried down the runway.

What can we take away?

From Vivienne Tam’s collection, we can tell the boho/hippie-chic look will definitely be stylish again next Spring. Hip-hugging boot-cut jeans paired with fitted tops are a great sophisticated vintage look. And, unlike the sleek and sporty looks we’ve seen from other shows, flowy, feminine styles will still be a stylish option.

Your thoughts?

How wearable do you think the butterfly designs are? Is this a collection you could wear or just draw inspiration from?

Fashion Distraction :: Nicole Miller Spring 2010

Nicole Miller 2010

Nicole Miller’s Spring 2010 line was sleek, sporty and sophisticated. Her usual ruching was present, but in much smaller quantities than usual. The collection featured pieces that looked more athletic than feminine. Instead of ruffles and bows, there were body-con dresses, bike shorts and cut-outs. As per usual, you’ll have to be pretty fit to wear Nicole Miller’s Spring 2010 line. If you are, her pieces will be a great way to show off your toned figure.

What can we take away?

Based on the shows we’ve seen so far, it looks like sleek and sporty styles will be a major style come next Spring. Body-conscious styles such as form-fitting dresses, tight cigarette pants and bike shorts will be key players.

Your thoughts?

I wasn’t particularly wowed by this collection. The dresses that were quintessentially Nicole Miller were my favorites (the ruched and draped variety). Maybe she should stick with those?

Fashion Distraction :: Charlotte Ronson Spring 2010

Charlotte Ronson Spring 2010

Charlotte Ronson’s Spring 2010 show was all 80′s ballerina. Mesh leggings under skirts, bodysuits, jumpsuits, built-out shoulders, bare shoulders, top knots and braided headbands were reminiscent of Flashdance, Footloose and Dirty Dancing.

Charlotte Ronson made this look slightly edgy with the addition of leather, studs and obi belts. While it was a fun line, it was border-line costume attire. Were you to don looks like those the models wore down the runway, you’d run the risk of looking like you were on your way to an 80′s costume party.

Of course, any of these pieces could be muted if worn separately or toned down with different accessories or pairings. What we can take away from Charlotte Ronson’s collection is the focus on the soft, artistic side of the 80′s and the mix of edgy accessories with the soft tulle of the ballet look.

Good, bad, just so so? Are you a fan of the 80′s ballerina look? Would you go all-out or only implement certain pieces?

Fashion Distraction :: Yigal Azrouel Spring 2010

Spring 2010 fashion trends

Yigal Azrouel’s Spring 2010 collection didn’t make any jaws drop. No fashion editors audibly gasped as his models took to the runway. What Azrouel did accomplish was the extension of what is becoming known as his signature–a focus on geometry through the use of cut-outs, negative space and body-con dresses. Azrouel himself called the collection “a study of geometry”.

Rather than the dark hint of the 80′s we saw in his Fall show, Yigal Azrouel’s Spring 2010 show was light, strong and futuristic.

His muse was the type of woman he himself is attracted to–someone strong, sexy, yet still feminine.

And apparently, someone in ridiculous shape. Almost all of the pieces featured baring cut-outs and body-conscious styles.

My favorite? The focus on shoulders. Quite a few pieces featured a cut-out (or maybe captured) shoulder that was surprisingly sexy and demure all at the same time.

What should we take from the collection?

Looking at Yigal Azrouel’s interpretation of next Spring’s style, we can tell skin is in, yellow is the accent color of choice (I LOVE that yellow mini!) and shoulders are super sexy!

What do you think?

Love it or hate it?
Which outfits are most wearable?
