It’s not just
fashion designers who are excited about Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Our favorite beauty brands are also jumping on the bandwagon.

Though Sephora is all sold out, rumor has it Urban Decay will be re-releasing the palette. Sign up on their

OPI

OPI has also followed the craze with their 4 color collection–Absolutely Alice (glitter blue), Mad as a Hatter (glitter purple), Thanks So Muchness (rose) and Off with Her Red! (red).

To wear this Fall’s hottest colors and not look like Elvira, follow these simple steps.
Length:
It’s always a girl’s goal to grow her nails long. The desire to have long, elegant nails is why we cry ‘oh, I broke a nail’ and mourn the loss of our broken nails. If you are going to wear a dark Fall polish, you’ll have to get out the clippers and say goodbye to your long nails.
Long dark nails have a tendency to look vampish and gothic. Unless that is what you’re going for, trim your nails to no longer than just beyond the finger–when you look at the pads of your fingers, you should see just the tip of your nails.
Shape:
Rounded nails were the shape of choice in the 80’s and early 90’s. The most stylish shape has been square or square with rounded edges for quite some time. Until now. The turn back to more natural looks (full eyebrows, subtle makeup, tinted moisturizers) has brought rounded nails back as well.
This is especially true when wearing dark polish colors. Square shaped nails can look harsh when painted with a deep color. And, since your nails are shorter when you wear dark colors, short square shaped nails have a tendency to make your nails look like they’ve been bitten to the quick.
For a more elegant look, round the edges of your nails.

As the temperature gets colder, our nails typically get darker. Nail trends for this Fall are no exception. The top 5 nail colors this season are dark, sparkly and attention getting!
Black
Yes, black nails are still in. Not only are they in, they’re basically becoming the fall back color for most ladies. In between manicures, it’s easy to just swipe a coat of black polish on to get you by ’til your next appointment.
Green
Greens of all shades are popular this Fall. Though it’s true that Fall nail trends are typically dark, light green shades are the exception this season. Light jades, primary greens and deep emeralds are all a go.
Navy
Stylists have been predicting that blue polish is the new black for some time. The problem is, the blue polishes that came out in the past were not dark enough to even be considered in the same category. This season, things are different. The navy polishes that we’re seeing might just give black a run for its money.
Ruby
It’s safe to say jewel tones in general are a trend this season. Sapphire, emerald and ruby hues are all super stylish especially when they’re taken a hue darker.
Metallic
Metallic polishes in silver, gold, bronze and copper are a fun way to add some glitzy glam to your Winter wardrobe. These shades are perfect for all of your holiday parties!
Which color will you be wearing this season?

Hair colors for Fall are usually a little darker, a lot more natural and in tune with the changing colors of the season. This Fall is a huge exception! Instead of subtle highlights, deep lowlights or hints of auburn, this Fall’s hair colors are going all or nothing.
Bold, no-holds-barred colors are what we’re seeing on celebrities, models and our trendiest friends. In a reflection of what’s popular in Fall fashion, it’s all about being strong and standing out in a crowd.
Platinum

Typically, blondes go a shade darker in the Fall. Come about September, they make an appointment with their stylist to get the routine ‘Fall lowlights’. As we’ve seen with Fall fashion (pastel colors, cocktail dresses, one-shoulder tops), we’re no longer depending on the seasons to dictate our fashion or beauty routines. This Fall, blondes (and non-blondes) are going even lighter than they did over the Summer by going platinum or as close to it as they feel comfortable. Of course, Elisha Cuthbert has worn her platinum do through the Fall and Winter before. It’s all of us who are just catching up!
Bright Red

Usually, the Fall redhead takes on an auburn tint that blends with the changing leaves of the season. This Fall, red hair color is bold, sassy and attention grabbing. Think Joan from ‘Mad Men’ or Donna from ‘That 70’s Show’. The hottest color this Fall is RED–that natural bold orange red if you can get it.
Dark Brown

In previous seasons, the usual Fall tradition is to add lowlights in auburn or a slightly darker brown. As with the above colors, brunettes this Fall are going extreme. The most popular hair color for brunettes is an all-over chestnut or a deep brown that’s almost black. Kim Kardashian (who was blonde for all of about 2 weeks) just went back to a deep, dark brown.
Raven Black

If you have naturally dark hair, take it even darker this Fall by dyeing your hair raven black. It’s all about extremes, after all! Even Agnyess Deyn abandoned her iconic platinum for a deep (almost black) mahogany this Fall.
The Ultimate Extreme
Looking for something completely different? Go with the ultimate extreme! If you’re naturally a brunette, go platinum. If you’re naturally blonde, go dark brown. Like fashion, your hair color this season is meant to reflect your strength as a woman, your ability to try new things and your fearlessness in the face of traditional conventions.
Your thoughts?
I’m pretty in between on this one. Last Fall, I went pretty dark for the first time ever (I’ve always been blonde). Every time I looked in the mirror, I saw a stranger staring back at me. I’ve–just now–gotten back to a blonde that I’m happy with. I’m so relieved to be back to a color that feels natural for me, I’m thrilled to stay away from lowlights this Fall. That being said, I probably won’t be going platinum any time soon.
What do you think? Are you going to try something more dramatic this Fall?

As we change our wardrobes with the seasons, let’s not forget about our makeup. Fall makeup typically gets darker and pinker as we lose our Summer tans, stash our bronzers for the season and mimic the jewel tones found in our clothing and the leaves on the changing trees.
Every season, though, there are a few makeup trends that stand out above the rest. Here are the top makeup trends for Fall 2009 as seen on the runway.

Pink Cheeks

As I mentioned above, it’s typical for makeup to get pinker during the Fall and Winter. Our faces lighten as we lose our Summer tans and bronzers begin to take on an orange look instead of the sun-kissed appearance they’re intended to portray. This season, pink blushes take on a whole new hue. Bright pink, rosy cheeks mimic a wind-burned look. To attain this look, find a blush that mimics the shade of your cheeks after you’ve exercised.
I recommend:
Bobbi Brown’s Pale Pink Blush
Natural Face

Natural looks are always in–this Fall is no exception. The trick is to create a flawless look without the appearance of having any makeup on at all. Unless you are blessed with even-toned, flawless skin, achieving this can be trickier than it sounds. For a step-by-step guide, visit Ssasy Chic’s guide to
‘barely-there’ makeup.
Bold Lips
Very vintage, bold lips in berry tones and true red make your look stand out from the rest. With bold lips, keep the rest of the makeup subdued to avoid looking overly made up. Find a berry tone that takes your natural lip color a shade or two darker. If you dare to try true red lips, visit Ssasy Chic’s
guide to wearing red lipstick.
Natural Eyebrows

Natural, full eyebrows are not just an addition to the natural face look. Full, often exaggerated eyebrows were seen with almost every makeup style on the runway. The full and natural brows have replaced the super thin, structured look we are so used to. This doesn’t mean we should put our tweezers away and let our eyebrows grow wild. Creating a mussed, but neat eyebrow still requires taming.
Allowing your eyebrows to resort to their natural shape might be a painful in-between process. Trim and structure around the brows to prevent them from getting too out of hand. Use an eyeshadow the shade of your brows to fill in and exaggerate their fullness.
Metallic Eyes

Metallic eyeshadows are a super fun way to move your look from daytime to nighttime. Choose a metallic eyeshadow in a shade similar to what you wear during the day. Then, before you go out, add the metallic shadow over what you are already wearing. Create a contoured look by brushing into the crease. Or, brush metallic shadow over the whole lid.
Metallic eyeshadows can also be worn during the day if you choose a sheer or neutral colored shadow.
I recommend:
Bobbi Brown’s Metallic Cream Shadow and Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow.
80’s Style

With all the 80’s fashion that has taken center stage this season, it makes sense 80’s makeup is trendy as well. To get a very 80’s look, use two bright colors side by side or as your lid and contour color.
Soft, Smoky Eyes

The smoky eye was first popular just in the gray/black variety. Now, smoky eyes in jewel tones, browns and lighter grays have made this style a versatile must-wear for Fall. To learn how to create a soft smoky eye, read Ssasy Chic’s guide to the soft, smoky eye.
