Window Shopping :: 4 October 2009

October 4th, 2009 by crystal
Slightly more tan (though I did my best to stay out of the sun) and quite rested, I am back from vacation. Before jumping headfirst into the fabulous articles I have planned for this week, I thought a little Window Shopping would be nice.

Not Sure About: Mouse Ears

Mouse Ear Trend 2009
Mouse ears have been popping up everywhere. It all started when models sported mouse ear headpieces in the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 runway show. Since then, we’ve seen Lady Gaga, Madonna and even the Olsen twins wear their own version of the trend.

I’m not so sure about this one. I’m all about drawing good attention to yourself by looking fabulous, but this just seems like a vy for the wrong type of attention. Your thoughts?

Talking About: Fall Clothes and How They Fit

Fall Clothes don't fit
Some of you commented on the Fall Clothes post. But, more of you sent me personal emails. It seems squeezing into last Fall’s jeans is an epidemic. I hope the reminders and tips I shared were helpful in allowing you to be realistic about why those jeans feel a little tighter than you thought they would. It’s so easy to get caught up in how we think we’re ‘supposed’ to look–we have a tendency to jump to the worst possible conclusion and tear ourselves apart about gaining a few extra pounds. Usually, the real problem is that we’re delusional and too hard on ourselves. If you haven’t checked out the article, please chime in with your thoughts!

Guilty Pleasure: Glee

I feel like such a teeny-bopper admitting this, but I am totally addicted to Glee. I watched all of the past 4 episodes last night and just couldn’t stop smiling. It’s such an exaggerated version of the high school experience. Combine that with singing, dancing and completely ridiculous scenarios and you have a highly entertaining sitcom. I love all of the characters, but I especially love adorable Kurt and evil Sue. It’s yummy brain candy. Are you a fan?

Reading: My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands

On my vacation, I read a lot. I read this particular book in pretty much one sitting. This collection of short stories by Chelsea Handler is a hilarious, quite self-deprecating telling of her sexual exploits. If you like David Sedaris, you’ll love Chelsea Handler. I’d actually never heard of her before this book. Turns out she has a late night show on E called ‘Chelsea Lately’. And, she has another book that I can’t wait to get my hands on, ‘Are you there Vodka? It’s me, Chelsea.’

Loving: Frederic Fekkai Hair Products

Before I left for vacation, I attended a Neiman Marcus/Alice+Olivia event. In the swag bag was a sample of Federic Fekkai’s Salon Technician Color Care Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask. Perfect since I had gotten my hair colored the day before and was traveling the following day. I’m a huge fan of my current shampoo and conditioner, but I have noticed my color has not lasted as long since I’ve been using it. I loved the Frederic Fekkai products just as much as my VS So Sexy hair care products. They left my hair shiny and smooth even in the extreme humidity of the Riviera Maya. I especially loved the hair mask. What’s especially great about this deep conditioner is that it is not time-intensive. You leave it on for 5 minutes and then rinse. Easy enough.

My Newest Passion: The Best of Thymes

When ssasy chic turned 1, I decided to start another blog focusing on a topic I’m also passionate about–food. I LOVE to cook and have recently realized I’m pretty decent at it. Writing a food blog was something I’d wanted to do before. In fact, the original ssasy chic was a combination blog of lots of different things I was interested in (after about 2 weeks, I began focusing on fashion). Watching Julie & Julia helped me realize I needed to just take the plunge and start writing. So, in addition to ssasy chic and organizing bridal shows, I’m now a food blogger. I hope you’ll check it out and let me know what you think!

Missing: Mexico

This photo is the view from our room in Mexico. It was a ridiculously beautiful, gloriously relaxing vacation. And, as is always the case, I am suffering from post-vacation blues.
To prevent the inevitable depression, the hubby and I have a date to plan our next vacation (even if it might be a year from now). Any suggestions?

OMG! Am I really going to have to wear mouse ears this winter? I don’t know if my boss will approve. Might improve sales I suppose, not sure about my reputation though!

Ha! When I first read your comment, I thought you said you WANTED to wear mouse ears. Lol! :)
