Window Shopping :: 21 June 2009

This is the first of what I hope will be a recurring post. Kind of a ‘link love’ post, kind of a ‘stumbleupon’ list of sites, it will be a list of my favorite news items, sites, items, etc. from the previous week. I won’t promise to post this one a certain date, because I’d like it to be as authentic as possible. In other words, I don’t want to stretch to come up with post-worthy links. Anything you find here will be truly what has inspired me over the previous week. And, as every post aims to be, quality, honest and stylish. Let me know how you like it!

I’ve been a casual reader of Nubbytwiglet for a while now and have just recently found myself being drawn to the site every day. Nubby is a graphic designer and blogger who posts truly amazing and creative photos, links and updates on her projects. I love the layout of her site and find myself inspired each time I visit.

Have you heard of bridal boudoir photos? I just heard about this new wedding trend and am pretty intrigued by it. Apparently, bridal boudoir is a photo session where you wear skimpy outfits, lingerie and/or nothing and are professionally photographed. You give the ‘for your eyes only’ photos to your future husband as a wedding gift. I hadn’t heard of this trend when I was married a little over a year ago. And, honestly, I’m not sure it’s something I would have done. What do you think? Here’s a little more info from The Knot. And, more images like the one here can be found from Jessica Claire.

I’m so excited about the latest H&M designer collaboration! In November, Jimmy Choo will be available in select H&M stores. Pictured are two examples of shoe designs that will be available as well as clothing, bags and accessories. Kudos to Budget Fashionista who was the first to tip me off to this fabulous news!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted an article about the high-waist trend. The comments have been really interesting. myvogue and rochalle agree that most girls can’t wear the trend, that the high-waist makes your butt looked larger. paige offers a different take. Quoting her, “My guess is that 30+ women appreciate the higher rise, because us ladies get our hip-flare later in life and it seams as though our thinest area creeps upwards towards our rib-cage as we age. When I was in my 20’s I also prefered a little lower waist, but not as low as the styles have been of late. I’ve never had a flat butt even when I was a child. I, for one, am looking forward to this…” What do you think? Is this an age-specific trend? Chime in on the conversation!

Fashion Kiwi posted this picture of Blake Lively wearing a fabulous hot pink dress by Michael Kors. I LOVE this look! Blake’s hollywood curls, the cut and color of the dress and her golden tan are amazing. The dress is from the Fall 2009 Collection, so I can’t find it in stores yet, but I’ll definitely be looking for it (if you find it, let me know)!

When she was in town last, my mom and I went shopping at Target. I found a super simple white v-neck tee like this one. Mine has a small pocket on the breast–I can’t find it on the Target website. This shirt is so perfect, I’m afraid I’ll be wearing it all Summer. I’ve already worn it belted, with a skirt, with shorts and with skinnies. I’m afraid to go back to Target because I’ll be tempted to buy one in every color and wear a ‘crystal uniform’ all Summer.

Forever 21 just launched a new blog this week. Called ‘The Skinny’, it was designed by Nubbytwiglet (the graphic designer I mentioned before). I’m loving the design, loving the informative posts (that aren’t just straight ads) and loving the photos of real women wearing F21 pieces.

I love “Window Shopping”! I really like seeing what things make your list. I fully agree that Jimmy Choo for H&M makes my heart skip a beat.
I also agree that, in theory, high waisted pants would be great for hiding a little “middle age spread”, but I hate how they crunch when you’re sitting. I guess they’d be okay if you had a job where you spent most of the day standing.

Thanks! It’s great to get feedback! I’m so excited about Jimmy Choo for H&M, but am super sad that there’s not a H&M here in Austin.
You make a good point about how high-waisted pants crunch when you sit. So true! I hate the way my high-waist skirt does that…
