Top 10 Pieces to Transition Your Wardrobe from Winter to Spring
If you live somewhere much cooler, you can still wear some of these pieces to begin trying out your Spring look. You just might want to layer more than those from warmer climates.
Speaking of layering…that’s the number one trick to transitioning your wardrobe. Spring pieces are much more bearable if you layer them with other pieces to keep warm.
Transitioning into your Spring wardrobe is a great way to determine and plan exactly what your look will be. Remember, you don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of new pieces. Chances are, you already have many items that you’ve forgotten about or have been thinking about in a different way. Make sure to read this post about Planning Your Spring Wardrobe.
Cardigan
The cardigan is a must-have this Spring. And, you should probably have a few. A variety of colors is always nice, but different styles can add more dimension to your wardrobe as well.
To transition into Spring, layer a cardigan on top of a ruffled or bow blouse. You can also wear a cardigan over a Spring dress. To look super trendy, belt your cardigan at your natural waist.

Scarf
Scarves are great transitional pieces because they can be worn to either make a Winter outfit a bit more light and airy for Spring or a Spring outfit more suitable for cool temperatures.
If you’re trying to lighten up a Winter outfit, choose a scarf in a light, flowy material like linen or something gauzy. Go for something bright and colorful as well to liven up your Winter wardrobe and make it more suitable for the new season.
If you’re already trying some Spring wardrobe variations and the weather is still a tad chilly, wear a Winter scarf in a heavier material to feel warm as you flaunt the next season’s fashions. Pashminas are great transitional pieces because they are fairly light, but can be worn in certain ways to add warmth to an outfit. They are also easy to store if you just decide to ditch your scarf midday.

Cuffed Jeans
Cuffing your jeans is great for so many reasons. For one, it’s a perfect way to make your outfit more Spring-like without sacrificing too much warmth. You’re only exposing a few inches at the ankle. Most importantly, though, it’s free. Just take a pair of jeans you already own and roll them up once or twice. This look works best with straight leg or skinny jeans.
Cuffed jeans are also fabulous for showing off the Spring shoe trend of ankle straps. Cuff your jeans right above the ankle strap to fully highlight this detail of your heels or flats.

Tights
Wear tights under a Spring dress to cover your legs from the last chilly traces of Winter. Tights are still a trend in Spring, so you can wear the same patterned, textured and opaque tights as you did in the Fall and Winter.
Tights can also be worn under cuffed jeans, cropped pants and shorts.

Trench Style Tops
Trench style tops take the Winter trench coat style and make it an all-day style. These are perfect for layering on top of a plain oxford shirt or a camisole, depending on the weather. They can be paired with jeans for a casual look or with a pencil skirt for something a bit more dressy.

Basic Blazer
The basic blazer is such a versatile piece. It’s great any time of the year, but especially as you transition into your Spring wardrobe since it adds structure and warmth to short tops and flowy fabrics. Black and tan blazers are always staples, but Spring is a great time to add a touch of color.

Oxford Shirt
Oxford shirts are great in-between pieces. They can be worn with shorts as the weather gets warmer or over camisoles as a layer that can be shed as the day gets warmer. If the weather where you are is still pretty cool, oxford shirts can also be worn under heavier layers like trench jackets or blazers.

Tall Boots
Your tall boots from Fall and Winter can still be worn as you transition into Spring. Wear your boots with a Spring dress and go bare-legged if it’s warm enough. Or, pull your boots on over a pair of Skinny Jeans topped with a frilly blouse. Your tall boots will keep your legs warmer than sandals and will ease you back into baring your legs to the elements.
For boots that are a bit more Spring oriented, choose riding boots in natural brown leather.

Cropped Pants
As with cuffed jeans, cropped pants are an easy transition to Spring. And, the same tips apply. Wear cropped pants with frilly Spring tops, belted cardigans and shoes with ankle straps. Cropped pants are also a nice option for the workplace when paired with a matching blazer. For the ultimate Spring transition, try a pair of high-waisted cropped pants.

Cooler Sweaters
Sweaters keep you warm even if they’re cropped or short-sleeved. Pair a cooler sweater with skinny jeans, a pencil skirt or even over a Spring dress. Depending on the weather, you can wear it alone, as a bottom layer under a heavy cardigan or jacket or as the top layer over a camisole.
