Help! None of my Fall clothes fit!

Fall Jeans
Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve seen lots of friends post status updates on Facebook and Twitter concerning their Fall clothes from last year.

Some have been exercising hardcore and their updates consist of being able to fit into jeans they never thought they’d wear again. Awesome!

Most though, haven’t changed much about diet or exercise over the Summer (for better or worse) and are lamenting the tightness of their clothes. I find it hard to believe all of these gorgeous, healthy women have gained weight over the course of a few months and got to thinking about the cause of these perceptions.

I really don’t think it’s so much that they’ve gained weight–there are a number of factors that can contribute to thinking you’ve gained a few pounds over the Summer when really, you’re the same size you’ve always been.

Here’s a ‘be nice to yourself’ list of things to remember as you start trying on those jeans you haven’t worn since last February.

Fall Clothes Fit Tighter

Jeans, especially the Skinnies from last Fall, are much more constricting than the flowing sundresses and shorts we wear during Summer months. They’re naturally going to fit tighter and feel more constricting than what you’re used to wearing.

Jeans Stretch

Maybe it’s just me, but I am definitely a wear jeans more than once kind of girl. Unless I spill coffee on them or something (which is pretty often), I get 2 or 3 wears out of my jeans. And, they are always much looser by wear #3. Let’s face it–they’re looser 3 hours after you put them on!
But, those jeans hanging in your closet? Those have ALL been laundered. They’re going to be tighter…

Life Happens

You’ve been living the good life this Summer. BBQs for Labor Day and 4th of July, calorific margaritas and ice cream just can’t be avoided. And, it’s pretty toasty for outside exercise. So, it may be that you’ve put on a few pounds. Again, it’s nothing to beat yourself up about. Jump on that treadmill, cut back on your calorie intake and you’ll drop those 5 pounds in no time.

Whatever the reason for the tightness of your jeans, remember to be nice to yourself, be healthy and enjoy the cool temperatures we have coming our way!

Thank you for this post! It’s all too easy for everyone to forget that we’re all beautiful in a world so saturated with fashion. Sometimes we all just need a little pep talk. :)

I like your post – it made me feel so relaxed. Now I am more motivated to start fighting the 40 pounds I put on this summer. Thank you!

So glad you guys liked it! It’s definitely easy to get caught up in the trends and forget reality. :)
Though I try to write about trends from a realistic stance, I think more posts like this would be nice.

I’ve been working out / dieting for the last 3 months and all my clothes are too big. Problem? I don’t think so

Ha! Well, if they don’t loosen to your liking and are just a tad tight, a few added bike rides will surely do the trick. :) But remember, jeans are so much tighter than the full skirts you’ve been wearing this Summer. :)
