Fashion Distraction: Prada Fall 2009
Miuccia Prada’s Fall 2009 Collection strays far from the script other designers seemed to be following this season. No neon, no built out shoulders, no eighties influences. What was similar was the focus on ‘feminine empowerment’.
The show began with upholstery fabric coat dresses belted at the natural waist. Heavy due to the fabric choice, they maintained a feminine look with deep plunging necklines and high leg slits. Prada’s designs are feminine but strong, for the woman who turns heads on the city street and gathers her own wood in the country. Velvet dresses paired with flat, thigh-high wading boots showed this combination to the extreme. Gladiator dresses rounded out the collection as an over-the-top, not as wearable example of the feminine strength Prada was seeking with these designs.

Prada collection is strange and kind a depressive. I am not crazy about it.
