Fashion Distraction: Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009

Fashion Fall 2009

Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2009 collection was a bit over the top. Okay, so maybe it was a lot over the top. Very little was wearable even by the most daring trend-setter. So, what do we do with a collection that we don’t see ourselves wearing? Considering it’s Dolce & Gabbana, we admire the artists’ work, take note of our favorite pieces and look for toned down versions that we will wear.

Designers Dolce & Gabbana were inspired by the surrealist works of Salvador Dali and the classic style of Marilyn Monroe. They were so enamored with Marilyn’s style, a screened photo of her appears on a number of pieces. The culmination of both resulted in a collection that was 1930’s/1940’s/1950’s vintage and electric 1980’s all at the same time. Pieces were pushed to the extreme with hot pink suede platforms, gloves used as headbands or scarves and full Hollywood-glam skirts.

I’m a fan of the slim-fitting, knee length dresses and matching separates. They look very 1940’s vintage in an updated way.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the collection? Do you think it’s wearable? Or, is it too artistic to consider?

I really love the graphic dresses a lot. I think they’re really fun and exuberant. Are they wearable? Probably not, but they’re still a work of art. :)

Totally agree. Very artistic…not so wearable.
