Fall Fashion Trend 2008–Trench Coat
August 19th, 2008 by crystal
The history of the trench coat is pretty fascinating. It was invented in 1914 by Thomas Burberry (yes, that Burberry) to be used as a raincoat for the British Army. During WWI, the shoulder straps were added to be used for epaulettes and insignia. The D-ring was also added to hold grenades. In later years, celebrities popularized the trench. Humphrey Bogart in “Casablanca” and Peter Sellers in “Pink Panther” made it a popular item for men. And, Audrey Hepburn made it a must have for women when she sported it in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Over the years, the trench has been altered in various ways but, for the most part, has kept its classic look. While the trench is still somewhat popular for men, it has become very stylish for women. This fall, we’ll see the trench popular as never before. The trench for this fall comes in a variety of styles, materials, and colors. Rather than choosing just one for the fall and winter, you may want to choose a variety of inexpensive trench coats for different occasions. One trendy, but still conservative enough for the office. One stylish and flirty for a night on the town. One for warmer days. A bright playful one for weekend trips. Here’s a run down of the Trench for this fall:
On the Runway
Trenches were a big hit at the Fall 2008 shows. The variety of textures, colors, and lengths reinforce the need to purchase more than one for the season.
Celebrity Fashion
Mandy Moore’s not the only celebrity sporting trenches this season. Isn’t this yellow trench fabulous?!
Classic Trench Coat
What could be more classic than a Burberry trench? Though it costs about $1,000, this would be one trench that you could utilize for almost any occasion this season. And, its timeless style would last you many more seasons, too!
