Though we’ve been chatting about Fall trends for a couple months, it’s now officially Fall 2009! Most of us are still transitioning our wardrobes from Summer to Fall. But, there’s no transitioning with handbags. It’s time to start carrying your Fall purses, ladies!
Here’s a list of the top handbag trends for Fall 2009.

Rocker chic is quite popular this Fall. We see it in the stud trend, in the sky high black leather boots, in leather motorcycle jackets and over the top layered accessories. If your style isn’t all out rocker chic, but you’d like to dabble in the edginess, a studded or chained purse is a nice way to do that. Most studded and chained purses this Fall come in the form of black leather hobos.

The extremely oversized hobo is back for another season. These purses are great for work or class because you can carry SO much in them. TO be extremely efficient, carry your essentials in a clutch that fits inside your oversize hobo. When you have an errand to run or are headed out for dinner, you can just grab your clutch and leave your shoulder numbing hobo behind. Look for an oversized hobo in camel leather or jewel tones.

Really any brown leather is what I’m referring to here. Cognac, camel, dark brown, tan and chocolate leather purses are a very luxe look. If you seek a purse in this vein, go for one made of real leather because you can really tell a difference between vinyl and leather when going for this natural color. And, depending on the style you choose, this is a purse that will have lasting power through seasons and styles.

Animal prints and textures are not quite as trendy as they were in seasons past, but are seeking revival with new animal prints and combining animal textures with edgy studs, chains and metallic accents. The latest animal prints include giraffe, zebra and cheetah. The latest textures are crocodile, ostrich and snake.

It’s funny because metallic purses were pretty out for Spring/Summer. I kind of thought they were gone for good. But, their back this Fall and are better than ever. Metallic purses can be found in every shade of silver, gold and bronze. For a truly Fall color, find a darkish bronze or a copper.

It goes without saying that jewel tones are popular in the Fall. Rubies, plums, emeralds and, my favorite, sapphire purses are the tones of choice this season. Find a jewel toned oversized hobo or a jewel toned satchel made in an animal texture.

Cross-body purses are another style that’s made a revival this season. Many purses are featuring adjustable straps so cross-body wearing is an option. Cross-body purses are perfect if you walk a lot–they save your shoulders and prevent bad posture. They’re also great for traveling as they keep your purse securely attached.
