9 Boot Trends for Fall 2009
Here are 9 boot trends for Fall 2009, organized in order of popularity.
Over the Knee Boots
Shown: Lucky Brand, Nicole, Joie
Over the Knee boots held their debut last Fall. Prior to then, they were more trampy than trendy (a la Pretty Woman). The problem last year was that they were fairly hard to find in retail stores. This Fall, the trend’s been around a bit longer and more stores are carrying them at affordable prices. Still worried about the tramp factor? Choose an over the knee boot with a chunky heel in a color other than black and avoid studs, buckles and other embellishments.
Ankle Boots
Shown: Not Rated, Mia, Very Volatile
Ankle boots are super trendy this season, especially when paired with funky tights, knee highs and girly socks. Wear ankle boots with dresses, cropped pants and skinnies. For more about ankle boots, check out this post on how to wear them.
Cowboy Boots
Shown: Jessica Simpson, Steve Madden, Stetson
You don’t have to dress Western to wear cowboy boots. Cowboy boots can be an unexpected addition to a very urban LBD or skinny jeans outfit.
Booties
Shown: MaxStudio, Dolce Vita, BCBG
Booties rose to popularity last Fall. Last year, they were the new kid on the block and got loads of attention. This year, they’re old news, but not in a bad way–they’re here to stay as a shoe type rather than a trend.
Cut-Out Boots
Shown: Steve Madden, L.A.M.B., Kenneth Cole
It’s hard to call this a trend of its own since these are really just a type of bootie. But, they’re so prolific, cut-out boots are worth noting. My favorite is still the Michael Kors ankle length bootie with peep-toe and heel cut outs.
Slouch Boots
Shown: Steve Madden, Naughty Monkey, BP
With the return to the 80’s fashions this Fall, it makes sense that slouch boots are on-trend. Combine three trends and find a suede slouch ankle boot. Slouch boots are perfect with full skirts or skinny jeans.
Riding Boots
Shown: Dolce Vita, Charles David, Steve Madden
Riding boots were quite the thing last Fall. This season, they’re still on trend, but not quite as much as the Over the Knee boot or the Western boot. For a riding boot that has lasting power, choose one in camel leather. You’ll be able to wear it next Spring/Summer as well.
Buckled Boots
Shown: Dolce Vita, Miz Mooz, Star Ling
Buckled boots are like cut-out boots in that they’re just a subtype of another type of boot. Buckles on boots are everywhere this Fall! I’m not talking just one or even two buckles here…buckled boots go ALL out with tons of buckles everywhere!
Suede Boots
Shown: Naughty Monkey, Via Spiga, Steve Madden
Suede boots are a soft contrast to all of the leather boot varieties. You’ll find suede slouch boots or suede boots embellished with flowers or ruffles.
Which boot trends will you be wearing this season?
Is there a trend you’re ready to try this year that you weren’t so keen on last year?

I live in M.S. And have been more than ready to leave the muggy heat and step into fall/winter eith boots of all kinds. I am on a tight budget, so /o;ane.com is my salvation. Their boots are fashionable and cheap! I have just bought some tan knee high buckle riding boots and some black slouchy boots as well. Love them both, sexy, but vwry wearable for class.

LOVE GoJane! Target and DSW also have a surprising number of super affordable boots this season!
