Fashion Distraction: Bottega Veneta Fall 2009
July 13th, 2009 by crystal

Oh…how I love this collection! For Fall 2009, Thomas Maier tried to block out the doldrums of the recession and focus on creating ‘appetizing clothes to make women feel pretty and attractive’. I’d say he succeeded. Unlike most other Fall collections, this color palette was light, white and soft. There were a few black pieces, but not the heavy grays or the bright neons that seem to be the trend this season. In fact, when peering at the collection, I had to make sure I was, indeed, looking at the Fall 2009 collection–it seemed so Spring!
The pieces were in keeping with the ‘quiet luxury’ that Bottega Veneta is known for. And, though the selections were light in color and classically simple in design, they were edgy for the brand. Edginess was not created with studs, bare skin or black leather (even the leather pieces were white, light brown and mauve). Rather, this edginess was sexy, sultry and erotic with corseting and underwires that drew attention to the breasts in a sophisticated, not-too-much way.

I will definitely be looking for these pieces on the designer sample sale sites I follow! What do YOU think? Do you like the collection? Or, do you find it too subdued for the season? Share your thoughts in the comments.
