Fall 2008 Makeup Trend–Blue Eyes
On the Runway
Lela Rose

Lela Rose kept things light and feminine. The eyes are thinly lined with black eyeliner and shadowed with a light blue. The entire lid is shadowed, with minimal contour.
Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler took things a step further. The eyes are lined and shadowed in blue. In the second image, you can see that shadow was used above and below the eye. Heavier shadowing and lots of contouring along the crease create this dramatic look.

Celebrity Style

Kate Hudson (Photo: Getty) has been rocking the blue liner and eyeshadow for some time. Other celebrities like Rihanna (Photo: WireImage) and Katie Holmes (Photo: Getty) have also started playing with the shade. In these images, the look is a safe one. Still feminine and simple, the shadow is subtle and the liner either black or very thin blue.
How to Wear The Trend
Simple:
1. Wearing a neutral shadow, apply a thin line of blue liner. Apply mascara as usual.
2. Apply a light layer of blue shadow to the entire lid. Apply a little heavier at the crease if you want a slight contour. Thinly line eye with black liner. Apply mascara as usual.
Dramatic:
1. Apply a thick line of liner to eye, going past the edge of the eye and up to create a cat-eye.
2. Follow recommendation #1 and use a lighter blue liner to apply another line above the dark one. Follow the same line.
3. Using 2-3 shades of blue shadow, apply as you would when creating a smoky eye look. Apply medium shade to entire lid, dark shade to crease and along eye line, use light shade for inner eye and brow line to highlight. Line with black or blue eyeliner.
4. Apply blue shadow to entire lid and under eye.
Blue Shadows
MAC also has some great individual shadows. My favorites are ‘Star by Night’ and ‘Electric Eel’.

I really like this duo from Too Faced for when I’m going for a much more subtle look. Find it at Sephora.
Bobbi Brown also has a few colors worth trying. Specifically, their Sapphire and Midnight shades.

And, there’s always the drugstore route. Which, personally, if it’s something I’m just experimenting with and might only wear a few times, that’s usually my pick. I love Cover Girl’s quad eyeshadows. This one (‘Crystal Waters’) is a must-have for Fall 2008.
Blue Eyeliners
I LOVE the color choices from Bobbi Brown. Check out their Gel Eyeliner colors. They’re in every shade imaginable. I am super fond of the Sapphire Shimmer Ink.

For a little more glam, try Too-Faced’s Shimmer Liner. Too-Faced always has their own fun versions of a trend.

Or, go drugstore with Cover Girl’s basic eye pencil in Cobalt Blue.
