Though we’ve been chatting about Fall trends for a couple months, it’s now officially Fall 2009! Most of us are still transitioning our wardrobes from Summer to Fall. But, there’s no transitioning with handbags.
It’s time to start carrying your Fall purses, ladies!
Here’s a list of the top handbag trends for Fall 2009.
Each picture is clickable so you can find more details, pricing and other purses in the same categories.
Studded/Chained

Rocker chic is quite popular this Fall. We see it in the stud trend, in the sky high black leather boots, in leather motorcycle jackets and over the top layered accessories. If your style isn’t all out rocker chic, but you’d like to dabble in the edginess, a studded or chained purse is a nice way to do that. Most studded and chained purses this Fall come in the form of black leather hobos.
Oversize Hobo

The extremely oversized hobo is back for another season. These purses are great for work or class because you can carry SO much in them. TO be extremely efficient, carry your essentials in a clutch that fits inside your oversize hobo. When you have an errand to run or are headed out for dinner, you can just grab your clutch and leave your shoulder numbing hobo behind. Look for an oversized hobo in camel leather or jewel tones.
Camel Leather

Really any brown leather is what I’m referring to here. Cognac, camel, dark brown, tan and chocolate leather purses are a very luxe look. If you seek a purse in this vein, go for one made of real leather because you can really tell a difference between vinyl and leather when going for this natural color. And, depending on the style you choose, this is a purse that will have lasting power through seasons and styles.
Exotic

Animal prints and textures are not quite as trendy as they were in seasons past, but are seeking revival with new animal prints and combining animal textures with edgy studs, chains and metallic accents. The latest animal prints include giraffe, zebra and cheetah. The latest textures are crocodile, ostrich and snake.
Metallic

It’s funny because metallic purses were pretty out for Spring/Summer. I kind of thought they were gone for good. But, their back this Fall and are better than ever. Metallic purses can be found in every shade of silver, gold and bronze. For a truly Fall color, find a darkish bronze or a copper.
Jewel Tones

It goes without saying that jewel tones are popular in the Fall. Rubies, plums, emeralds and, my favorite, sapphire purses are the tones of choice this season. Find a jewel toned oversized hobo or a jewel toned satchel made in an animal texture.
Cross-Body

Cross-body purses are another style that’s made a revival this season. Many purses are featuring adjustable straps so cross-body wearing is an option. Cross-body purses are perfect if you walk a lot–they save your shoulders and prevent bad posture. They’re also great for traveling as they keep your purse securely attached.
Which purse will you be carrying this Fall?

Yigal Azrouel’s Spring 2010 collection didn’t make any jaws drop. No fashion editors audibly gasped as his models took to the runway. What Azrouel did accomplish was the extension of what is becoming known as his signature–a focus on geometry through the use of cut-outs, negative space and body-con dresses. Azrouel himself called the collection “a study of geometry”.
Rather than the dark hint of the 80’s we saw in his Fall show, Yigal Azrouel’s Spring 2010 show was light, strong and futuristic.
His muse was the type of woman he himself is attracted to–someone strong, sexy, yet still feminine.
And apparently, someone in ridiculous shape. Almost all of the pieces featured baring cut-outs and body-conscious styles.
My favorite? The focus on shoulders. Quite a few pieces featured a cut-out (or maybe captured) shoulder that was surprisingly sexy and demure all at the same time.
Key Trends from the Yigal Azrouel Spring 2010 collection
cutouts
asymmetry
yellow
goddess dresses
sheer fabric
body-con dresses
What should we take from the collection?
Looking at Yigal Azrouel’s interpretation of next Spring’s style, we can tell skin is in, yellow is the accent color of choice (I LOVE that yellow mini!) and shoulders are super sexy!
What do you think?
Love it or hate it?
Which outfits are most wearable?

We all know Piperlime as the shoe sister to Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic. Recently, they’ve started dabbling in apparel. I was dubious at first. They started with a super small selection of designer clothing. I realize now they were just getting started.
What strikes me as interesting is that
they’re selling items not made by the brand. I guess they have always sold shoes that weren’t Old Navy, Gap or Banana Republic so it’s a natural next step.
At Piperlime, you’ll find designer name brands like 7, Marc Jacobs, Citizens of Humanity and BB Dakota. Their offerings are quite similar to Chick Downtown or Pink Mascara’s.
So, what makes them different?
In two words,
Rachel Zoe.
I think most of this came about from partnering with Rachel Zoe. Piperlime has showcased her ‘picks’ for shoes and handbags for well over a year. It just makes sense that they would take advantage of this opportunity to move into apparel.
For apparel, Rachel Zoe offers her picks just as she did for shoes and handbags. She also showcases Piperlime looks on The Rachel Zoe Project and shares them with shoppers on Piperlime.
In addition to seeing her favorite pieces, you can see entire outfits she’s pieced together.
There is also a ‘Real Steals’ category which lists everything that is priced under $100. I like having those items separated when I’m shopping, but I wouldn’t necessarily consider them steals.
What I like best about Piperlime’s new apparel is the way they’ve organized their pieces according to the latest trends. It’s easy to shop for boyfriend styles, slouchy sweaters and plaid because those trends are separated into their own categories.
Piperlime also created a trend guide which is, of course, linked to each of the products so you can purchase right away. Though the trend guide is pretty spot-on, it’s also quite simplified to what they offer for purchase.
All in all, I’m pretty impressed with Piperlime’s new apparel offerings. It’s nice to have shoes and apparel together. And, it’s great they’re offering stylish clothing from other brands. Rachel Zoe, love her or
hate her, has steered them right. You do have to admit the girl has style!
Have you checked out Piperlime’s apparel? What do you think?

I went through a serious western-wear phase when I was about 13. I had recently moved to Texas and became quite taken with the whole cowgirl look. It’s embarrassing to admit this, but my favorite outfit was a pair of purple Rockies (you know, the pants with no back pockets…), a very western shirt and tall white boots with–get this–fringe down the sides. I was a sight. To say the least…
I’ve come a long way since then. Thank goodness.
But, because of that awkward time, cowboy boots have always made me cringe a bit. Until recently.
Cowboy Boots are quite trendy this
season, and not just for rodeo attendees.
Depending on how you wear them, they can appear ultra-feminine, super edgy, good girl preppy or country chic. Style cowboy boots they way you would any other item–with your own style and comfort in mind. Assemble an ensemble that is creative and unique, using cowboy boots to highlight your personal flair.
Here is a guide on types, trends and ways to wear cowboy boots this Fall.
Types of Cowboy Boots for Fall 2009
Traditional
Wear With: Traditional cowboy boots can be worn in many different ways as I’ll demonstrate below. For a very
Western look, pair with boot-cut jeans and a
plaid shirt. For something still Western, but a little more Rodeo Drive than Rodeo, wear that plaid shirt over a pair of ripped leggings.
Ankle

Ankle cowboy boots are a super cute option that we haven’t seen much of in previous seasons.
Wear With: Wear ankle cowboy boots the same way you would other
ankle boots. Skinnies, dresses and leggings are all great outfits to wear with ankle cowboy boots.
Heeled
Wear With: Wear heeled cowboy boots over a pair of skinny jeans to lengthen the leg.
Slouchy

Slouchy boots are a nice in-between option if you don’t want to look too Western.
Wear With: Slouchy boots look great with skinny jeans or leggings, but they are particularly fetching when worn with dresses and skirts.
How To Wear Cowboy Boots
Cowboy boots can be worn a variety of ways. In the past, we’ve seen them worn under jeans, with denim skirts, with sundresses and with full skirts. While it’s not a fashion faux pas to wear cowboy boots any of those ways this Fall, those are no longer the most fashionable ways to wear them.
This Fall, we’re seeing cowboy boots worn in ways that are much more appealing to a wide range of styles.
With Skinny Jeans
With a Dress
With Tights or Leggings
Quality Cowboy Boots Under $100
Will you be wearing cowboy boots this Fall?
I’m a big fan of all of these looks and will be donning cowboy boots for the first time since my kicker teen days. Will you be wearing them?
If so, how will you wear them?
