5 Runway-Inspired Shorts Under $20

May 29th, 2009 by crystal
It’s been very warm here the last couple of days, with highs in the mid-90’s. Time to start thinking about shorts for Summer. What follows is a list of the Top 5 Short Trends for Summer 2009. For each, I’ve shown runway inspiration and an example priced under $20.

High-Waist

High Waist Shorts 2009Shorts 2009
High-waisted shorts were also popular last Summer, but are much easier to find this Summer. Many more mainstream stores are carrying the style in quite a few different varieties. Wear this trouser style pair with a ruffled top and heels. Depending on the length, these can be appropriate for the office.

Pleated

Definitely my favorite of the season’s short styles, the pleated short comes in a variety of lengths, colors and leg-widths. Wear pleated shorts with a fitted tee, a short-sleeved or long-sleeved cardigan and wedges.

Shown: Luella, Victoria’s Secret ($9.99)

Sailor

This style was around a bit last Summer, but the options weren’t very stylish until this Summer. Many stores are carrying sailor shorts. It’s surprising how edgy the style can be!

Boyfriend Shorts

Love the denim cutoff, boyfriend short look! This style definitely lends itself to a DIY project, but there are also many options in stores.

Cuffed

Be careful with cuffed shorts since they can appear quite mom-ish. Go for a pair that’s cut well, either high-waisted or at the hips, and pair with a trendy top.

Your thoughts?
Which is your favorite short trend for this Summer?

Beauty Review: Victoria’s Secret So Sexy Hair Products

May 27th, 2009 by crystal
Best Shampoo and Conditioner
I figured I should go ahead and write a review about these products since I’ve basically been a walking commercial to my friends lately.

I have to preface this post by saying these are not products I would usually try. I am a salon shampoo kind of gal, hopelessly devoted to Aveda, Bed Head and Pureology products. So, when two great friends gifted me Victoria’s Secret So Sexy Shampoo and Conditioner for Dry and Damaged Hair, I was grateful but skeptical.

One of my friends had used it before and said the smell was fantastic. I figured anything that aromatic must be filled with perfumes which are usually damaging to your hair. So, I didn’t have high hopes for these products.

A few days later, I decided to try them. The first thing I loved was the smell! It is not too overpowering and complements other lotions and perfumes well. Then, that day, I had about 5 compliments about my hair. People kept asking if I’d gotten my hair cut or deep conditioned. All I’d done was use a new shampoo and conditioner. My hair was shiny, full and unusually tame.

My hair was so soft, I figured it would get greasy sooner than usual. Not so. I was able to go just as long between washes as when I used other products.

I’ve now used So Sexy for about 2 months. I just had my hair done last week and my stylist commented on how healthy my hair was. My hair has always been healthy and I wouldn’t usually buy products for ‘Dry and Damaged Hair’, but these products have done such great things for my hair, I wonder what I ever did without them! I’ve always seen commercials for Pantene, etc. and longed for shiny, bouncy hair like the models in the ads. This is, by far, the closest I’ve come.

Lucky for you (and me since I’m nearing the end of my bottles), these products are on sale 3/$24 now. I think I might try the hairspray as well this time.

Have you ever used Victoria’s Secret hair products? Which ones and what did you think?

Lamixx: Affordable Luxury by Jacqueline Rose

May 26th, 2009 by crystal

I recently had the opportunity to interview Jacqueline Rose, the designer of Lamixx.
I found out about Lamixx on Shopflick, a marketplace for indie designers. Lamixx is featured there as well as on Etsy and 80’sPurple. What I like about Lamixx is how comfortable the clothes look while also looking designer, fitted and classy. What I REALLY like about Lamixx, though, is the price tags. The prices are so reasonable for pieces that emphasize quality and have classic appeal that will last more than one season.

As you can tell from the following interview, Jacqueline’s philosophy is simple and sophisticated…focused on real women who exude confidence and style.

Interview with Jacqueline Rose

Tell us about Lamixx. How would you describe the style of your designs?

Lamixx is classic yet modern, unique cuts, timeless and effortlessly wearable.

What led you to fashion design?

I have always loved fashion, and was having a hard time finding clothes that I felt could best represent my own style. I wanted to create fashion that I truly loved and hope others would feel the same…

What influences your work?

My influences come from all over, vintage, nature, movement, travel, life, and those moments an idea just pops in your head…

For what type of woman do you design?

I design for the women that is confident, beautiful inside and out, her clothes are an extension of herself. She is passionate about life and expresses herself freely in her individual style.

Has the recent economic downturn affected your designs or inspiration?

During these times I find that comfortable clothing goes a long way. I have always been a big fan of comfortable fabrics and cuts. In each collection I like to design a “weekend” piece for that night you just need to get away and dress it up.

Your clothes look so comfortable. How do you achieve the look of luxury while maintaining comfort?

I can’t put it into words, other then just the right mix of luxury and comfort …

How would you describe your own personal style?

My style goes hand & hand with lamixx….
timeless, unique, chic, and redefined….

What advice do you have for women who are trying to look stylish, but also need to stick to a budget?

Pick up key pieces that are versatile… and that you could see yourself wearing often. I wear the lamixx v neck and slouch top weekly. It’s sexy, classic and goes with anything.
Don’t be afraid to redefine your style, mix up your wardrobe vintage with modern, and if your budget allows… add Lamixx to it–”price conscious with out compromising luxury”.
