I want to first apologize in advance for my absence this week. I hope and intend to post as often as usual, but am quite busy this week making final arrangements for my first bridal show!
Last week, I posted reviews and summaries of different fashion shows from New York fashion week. Instead of continuing to review each and every show, I’ve decided to devote Mondays to fashion shows. So, from now on, you’ll see a post related to fashion designers. Sometimes it will be a review or summary of a show. Other times, I’ll post a ‘get to know the designer’ piece.
I’ve also been thinking about doing a street fashion post each week. This piece might be a picture I took of someone who was dressed fabulously or it could be a picture a reader sends in of themselves. Each time, I will interview the wearer about their outfit so you can see where they purchased each item and get an idea of how much it cost.
Another upcoming change on ssasy chic will be to the appearance of this blog. I’m definitely going to change some minor things, but want your feedback on the overall look of the blog. Is it visually appealing? What do you think of the sidebar? Do you like knowing about current sales stores are having? What suggestions do you have?
As always, I am open to suggestions and criticism. Please let me know what you think of these ideas. What are some things you’d like to see on ssasy chic? More of certain posts? Less of others? I write this for YOU and want it to be something you can’t wait to check each day.
Please leave your thoughts in the comments. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

After watching Erin Fetherston’s Spring 2009 show, I expected something quite a bit more frilly and feminine than this show. Dressed as life size dolls, the models showing Fetherston’s Fall 2009 collection looked like something out of a children’s fantasy. There even seemed to be a plot of good vs. evil as the show progressed from black and wine colored pieces to white and light lavender.
Trends at the Erin Fetherston show:
black & white
stripes
polka dots
tuxedo look
high-waisted, full skirts
tulle
gloves
cropped pants
bows
lavender
wine
What do you think of Erin Fetherston’s Fall 2009 collection?

Diane von Furstenberg took us on an urban safari with her bright, bold, incredibly eccentric collection. Her designs were not even the slightest bit timid, responding to the current economy quite differently from most designers.
Overarching themes from the Diane von Furstenberg show:
animal prints
camouflage
belted cardigans
layering
asymmetrical dresses
leggings
vibrant colors and patterns
mixed prints
socks with sandals
This show was amazing! DVF reminds us we can still have fun even when times are tough.

Nicole Miller’s designs are always so sophisticated and tasteful and this show was no different. Moving from edgy streetwear to her amazing formal gowns, the show fluidly highlighted Miller’s edgy and trendy vibe that’s still conservative enough to be wearable. Every design shown was something real women would, and will, actually wear. If I had to identify her audience, I’d say this collection is more for women over 30. That’s not to say, however, that this collection is inappropriate for younger women. Her designs were just more sophisticated and conservative than trendy and edgy.
Unlike typical Nicole Miller collections, the colors were surprisingly subtle with only an occasional pop of red or blue.
Themes from the Nicole Miller show:
broad shoulders
geometric prints
asymmetric lines
ruching
belted natural waist
leather jackets
zippers
